Welcome to
Alpacas at Scotland Hill
Small Farm T.L.C.

We are a small farm in rural eastern Connecticut. Located 40 minutes from Hartford and 20 minutes from the Mass/Rhode Island boarder. The main attractions are the historic town of Mystic, Mystic Village (a quaint New England shopping experience), Mystic Seaport and Mystic Aquarium.

As a small farm, we are dedicated to producing quality alpacas, staying focused on confirmation, health and fleece. Our goal is to improve upon our alpacas with every new birth by giving careful consideration to our breeding program. We are also focused on keeping our farm small at a personably manageable level. We particularly enjoy the daily hands-on interaction we have with our alpacas. That’s what we refer to as our “Small Farm T.L.C.” We would never want to loose that aspect of our farm.

Bob & I started our alpaca business five years ago as a new and exciting adventure in our retirement. We have learned much through those five years. Much of it, I must admit, through our own trials and errors but the majority through seminars and clinics, learning from the shows we attend and from our many alpaca friends.

We continue to promote alpacas and the wonderful products that are produced from their luxurious fleece. Some of the ways we have chosen to help promote them is by donating books to schools and libraries, holding open farm days where people may visit with the alpacas, pick up free literature , ask questions and visit our farm store “A Touch of Alpaca”. Many times we have a spinner on hand to demonstrate spinning techniques for anyone interested.

We enjoy talking with others interested in alpacas. If you’re thinking of purchasing your first alpacas in the near future or just starting your research, we would love to talk to you and answer any questions you may have. Feel free to email or call to arrange a visit. Remember we are a small farm so we have the time and desire to give you that special attention, or as we call it “Small Farm T.L.C.”

We have joined forces with four other small farms in Connecticut to form the “Alpaca Institute of Connecticut”. We are a group who saw a need for educational seminars and clinics in this area and decided we would do something about that. Previously alpaca owners wanting to learn more about caring for their alpacas had to go to other states to attend these seminars. We have been putting on seminars and clinics in Connecticut now for a couple of years and they have all had high attendance. We are geared to small farms, people just starting out or just thinking about it and sometimes even the old timers can use a refresher course. We try to sponsor seminars and clinics that will be educational and of interest to everyone. In the past we have sponsored a neo-natal clinic, a fiber seminar, a Marty McGee Bennett training clinic, an “All Things Considered “ seminar with Steve Hull, PhD and Tom Cameron, DVM, which included everything from Alpaca husbandry to pasture management. Check our events page for any future seminars.

If you have any questions or comments about our website or any of the clinics we are sponsoring, we would love to hear from you.
